Treatment Path

Holly met with the oncologist on Thursday (with me on speaker phone) to review the cancer analysis results and discuss her recommended treatment path.

We learned that her cancer is stage 3 invasive lobular carcinoma, grade 2. Based on this her oncologist has built a chemotherapy treatment plan that Holly will begin in three weeks.

The treatment itself will last four months with doses administered in two week cycles, eight doses in total. Each dose will be administered at the cancer center via IV, after each dose we'll administer immune boosting shots at home daily for seven days followed by seven days of rest before beginning the cycle again. Treatment can be altered mid-stream, so if treatment is too aggressive the plan can be modified to extend time between doses.

After chemotherapy has finished she may have additional radiation therapy, and there is the possibility of more surgery. We'll be meeting with the radio oncologist about halfway through chemo (in May) to discuss radiation treatment. Following this she'll be receiving hormone therapy for a few years, but the oncologist has tabled that discussion for another day as there's already enough to focus on in the short term.

In the coming weeks leading up to the chemo treatment she'll be busy with a number of appointments to prepare. Thanks everyone for all your support, we can't express how much it's meant to us through this!

Thanks so much for the update, Dan & Holly. I'm sorry that it feels like such a long journey ahead, but with family around you, you'll all get through this.
