Holly received her second chemotherapy treatment on Monday, followed by her first at-home immune booster injection today. Recovery from this session so far has been similar to the last with bouts of nausea and fatigue. The at home injection was a little intimidating but we managed to get through it together.
This week has also taken more of an emotional toll as her hair has begun falling out, making things feel even more real.
Today we read a really great book to the kids about cancer that we received as a gift from our family, "Cancer Hates Kisses", that frames things in a way that children can better understand. It's all about how Mommy is going to kick cancer in the butt, but needs our help to do it and it touches on all the different treatments and side effects that Holly will be experiencing through this journey.
Thanks everyone for helping us kick cancer in the butt. Holly can use all the emotional encouragement she can get so keep the well wishes coming!
It's such a loving thing to approach Holly's illness as a journey that the whole family is taking together. A cancer diagnosis used to be treated as a secret, which meant that children were usually confused and anxious by what was going on, and had no one to help them process their own feelings, or express their love. So way to go Holly and Dan for keeping your family healthy as Holly makes her way toward her own personal wellbeing!
Holly, you’re such a trooper!!! (you too, Dan!). You’re going to beat this for sure. We love you guys & we’re here for ANYTHING you need! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
